A remarkable young seven-year-old girl has shown how big her heart is after choosing to help others in their time of need.
While walking with her mother last week in their hometown of
Independence, Missouri, second grader, Phoebe Brown, found a $100
scratch-off ticket just lying on the ground.

After finding out she had picked up a winning ticket, Phoebe decided
to spend it on food for those in need, rather than take the winnings for
herself.
Just like most seven-year-olds, the thought of buying toys did
admittedly cross Phoebe’s mind, but having heard about her school’s
canned food drive, she chose to spend the money on the latter. “She
said, ‘mom, mom, can we do that?’” her mother, Audrey Brown, recalled,
“And I was like, ‘yeah.’”
Her proud father, Joshua Brown, told Kansas City Station, “You wonder
if our kids these days, if that’s how they’re thinking, and this just
goes to show, ya they are thinking that, and that’s a real good thing.”
Joshua also spoke of how he knows first-hand what this generous act by his daughter could mean for a family in need.
“There have been times where I’ve been out of work, and we had
nowhere to stay and our family’s taken us in, and helped us out,” he
told WDAF. “We’re thankful for our friends and our family.”
Together, the family went to Walmart to purchase an assortment of
canned goods for her school’s drive, and Pheobe’s father even matched
whatever his daughter spent.

As a result, Pheobe’s class had collected 541 items of food, which
gave their class a triumphant win. The class’s fun reward was to shave
their gym teacher’s beard, which to the school children, was an exciting
treat.
“We could shave Mr. Horeman’s beard, and we could also help other families,” Phoebe said of their prize.
