This Is How Superheroes Would Dress if They Were Flemish Royals

For the past 70 to 80 years, iconic superheroes have captivated our imaginations with virtue, bravery, and strength, and for many of these heroes, their very look inspires reverence among the masses. For photographer Sacha Goldberger, he wanted to take that look and bend it into something nobody had ever seen. What if Batman or Superman had been around 400 years ago? What if they were Flemish royals from a bygone era?


[post_ads]Those ideas spurred Goldberger to create Super Flemish, a photo series of today’s iconic superheroes, along with characters from Star Wars and classic Disney films, dressed in 16th century garb, standing or seated stoically like a Renaissance painting perched in the halls of a museum.


According to My Modern Met, Goldberger completed the series over a period of two years with the help of 12 make-up artists, five costume designers, and two digital retouchers. When asked about the completed project, Goldberger said, “All of it was incredible, it was like a dream come true. When you see the Hulk in front of you and you ask him to look romantic, it’s crazy. The Joker was also very impressive. He endured three hours of make-up and started to act like Heath Ledger in the movie, The Dark Knight.”
