Researchers use ‘Alice in Wonderland’ Blockbuster movie to identify initial signs of Psychosis

The movie ‘Alice in Wonderland’ can change the lives of individuals suffering from psychosis. Researchers have used the reactions of individuals watching ‘Alice in Wonderland’ to identify the initial signs of the mental illness in apparently healthy individuals.

Finnish researchers found that psychotics watched and processed information from the film in a different manner and these brain patterns could help physicians detect people at risk. Psychosis is a mental condition that causes individuals to interpret or understand things in a different manner from people around them, and may involve delusions or hallucinations.
In the study, scientists scanned the brains of 32 non-psychotic people and 46 first-episode psychotic people while viewing the Hollywood Blockbuster. They discovered that there were notable differences in the activities of the brain area associated with spatial and visual awareness, self-awareness and memory. Eva Rikandi, the lead researcher, said that they were able to attain 80% classification accuracy employing these methods.
