A small town in Oregon has decided to hold a public meeting in order
to discuss the amount of deer that is wandering through their
neighborhood streets. The town said that the herd of deer are very
fearless and have a tendency to act aggressively towards the residents.
Mayor
John Stromberg initiated the ‘Deer Summit 2015’ in hopes of having the
town discuss the problems they’ve had by being stalked by the deer. Many
of the deer has pawned their hooves at citizens and even trampled their
small dogs. A recent incident where a deer attacked a homeowner urges
the city to try to take action.
The District Wildlife Biologist
for the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, Mark Vargas says that
the deer has no fear of the neighborhood citizens. Due to many of the
residents befriending and feeding them, the deer have a mindset that
they belong in the small town, among the human population.
“The
deer have no fear of humans. They live amongst all the people and when
that happens there’s going to be conflict. In reality we encourage
folks, look don’t feed the deer. They don’t need food. They don’t need
water. If you can, don’t even be friends with them.”
