Melissa Butt speaks very highly of her pit bull, Slayer. Even with
grandchildren roaming around, she is confident in her dog’s temperament
and knows that nothing bad could happen to them with Slayer around. And
she was proven right after Slayer and another family dog, Paco, came
face to face with a snake.
While playing in her back yard in Florida, Butt’s two grandchildren,
aged four and one and a half, were playing with Slayer and Paco when the
two dogs started barking uncontrollably and alarmingly. The children
were then taken inside and kept safe while Butt and the children’s
parents went back outside to see what all the commotion was about.

It was then that they saw a snake and the two dogs standing their
ground and keeping guard. The snake slither over to bite both dogs and
managed to catch Paco on the elbow and Slayer on the snout, leading to
an emergency situation for both dogs. Nevertheless, just after they were
bitten, “Slayer grabbed the snake in his mouth and killed it.”
The two dogs were then rushed to their vet, but once they arrived, it
was recommended that they take the dogs to BluePearl emergency vet,
which was 40 minutes away. While on the way, both of the dogs’
conditions began to worsen. Especially Slayer, who’s face was swelling
and he was struggling to breathe.
Fortunately, upon arrival the dogs were given immediate lifesaving
treatment and both dogs are now recovering. However, with such treatment
came a large bill for the family. This is when BluePearl connected
Melissa with Frankie’s Friends, a nonprofit which helps cover large
medical costs for pets.

Melissa Butt has been extremely grateful for the help she has
received in helping her loved ones, and while Slayer has still yet to
completely recover, he will soon be able to join Paco on going home. For
now though, Slayer is seen as a hero for saving the young children’s
lives from the dangerous snake. See the full story in the video below:
