High Schooler Starts Club To Make Sure Nobody Eats Alone At Lunchtime

, IFLMyLife

Going to school can be tough, and not only in the classroom. Many times, students feel isolated when it comes to lunchtime, as there are tight cliques and associations, sometimes leaving students with nowhere to sit.

This sort of isolation can negatively affect not only feelings but also students’ grades. One student who started off in this position, and eventually rose to popularity, has instated a new club that is designed to make sure that nobody ever eats lunch alone.

The feelings of isolation are magnified in big schools, where individual needs are lost in the crowd. This is the case in Boca Raton High School, where about 3,400 students eat lunch at the same time.
Denis Estimon, a student at Boca Raton, decided he was going to do something about this issue. Since he immigrated from Haiti in first grade, he knows what it feels like to be an outsider:

“It’s not a good feeling, like you’re by yourself. And that’s something that I don’t want anybody to go through.”

Denis and his pals have created a club called “We Dine Together.” The members of this club go around to loners to invite them to eat. This is super helpful for new students. One student who benefited from this was Allie Sealy.

“I went from coming from a school where I always had friends, to coming to where I had nobody,” she explained. Now, she is a member of the club, and is super grateful to be spared the negative feelings.

The We Dine Together club has become something of a movement. Denis is working hard to open new chapters of the club around the country, with 15 already active, and due to their success, hundreds more starting soon.

This inspiring story shows how one person experienced a problem, and used his privilege to solve it, making him a model for us all.

High Schooler Starts Club To Make Sure Nobody Eats Alone At Lunchtime
High school is full of cliques. At lunchtime, groups sit together, leaving some isolated. This student started a club to change that.
