Tiny Dog Clings To Shelter Staff After Family Surrendered Her

After being surrendered to a busy, high intake animal control agency in California, an 18-year-old dog was devastated.

[post_ads]18 years is a long time by any standard, but in dog years, 18 years is the equivalent of 126 years- which is a lifetime. It’s hard to imagine having everything you know change at age 126, and this is what a tiny Dachshund mix named Muneca was going through when she was surrendered- her world was turned upside down.

Muneca was surrendered to the Baldwin Park Shelter on October 11 and while there are not many details about why her owner surrendered her, she was found to be blind, deaf and covered in fleas

A Baldwin Park Shelter volunteer named Elaine, who is noted for her amazing empathy and chemistry with shelter animals, was the first person to interact with Muneca.

Photographer John Hwang was also at the shelter when he captured those first few moments between Muneca and Elaine. [post_ads_2]Hwang can only describe it as Muneca “clinging to Elaine,” as soon as she was picked up. He posted the photo on Facebook, writing a plea for rescue that said, “all she wanted was to be held the whole time.”

The social media post pulled at so many heartstrings, and that’s when the Frosted Faces Foundation, a dedicated senior dog rescue in San Diego received interest in fostering Muneca before they even got her out of the shelter.

When asked what it was about Muneca that really stood out, founder Kelly Smisek said, “She has a very soft face, which I always love.”

The next stop for Muneca was to the San Diego Bay Animal Hospital where she was found to be in good health for her age. She then received a warm bubble bath, nail trimming, and after that, she was taken to the beach for the sunset.

Although she couldn’t see the sunset or hear the sounds, Muneca got to feel the sand between her paws and was fed lots of treats.

Since being in the care of Frosted Faces, a number of people were interested in being Muneca’s forever foster family, and she has finally found one!

[post_ads_2]Frosted Faces hopes that all who have applied for her will consider waiting for another wonderful senior to come through their program.
