A Los Angeles-based artist just erected a gold statue of Kanye West in the exact pose of Jesus on the cross. The statue even has the gold Kanye adorned in Yeezys, Kanye’s signature shoe. The piece is titled “False Idol”, which references J Cole’s diss track on West.

The anonymous artist, Plastic Jesus, also shared photos of the building process. It’s no coincidence that the statue also looks like the Oscars award–which are right around the corner

Here you can see the clear resemblance between the Kanye statue and that of Jesus on the cross, with the nail through the palm.

Plastic Jesus told The Hollywood Reporter, “Kanye is a genius. He is a brilliant writer and producer, but we’ve built him up to a god-like idol.” This doesn’t come as any surprise since the artist has posted about Kanye on his/her social media in the past.

The artist regularly does artistic demonstrations during the Academy Awards, including this one done last year.

A lot of his work is a commentary on the Hollywood lifestyle and how society perceives it.

“False Idol” will be on display this weekend at Gibson Brands Sunset
