There’s nothing wrong with trying to get healthy; if anything, it’s pretty admirable. But as with everything else in the world, it’s important to act within reason and moderation. Going overboard with the body can take a serious toll — even with something as innocent as green tea. One sixteen-year-old girl found that out the hard way.
She met with her doctor one day to discuss some of the health problems she had recently, such as dizziness, nausea, and pains in her stomach and joints. Though she received antibiotics to help her out, two days later she had to make an emergency trip to the hospital. She had every right to; her skin and eyes had turned yellow, and upon admission she was diagnosed with hepatitis. Liver problems plagued her from head to toe — and as it turned out, it was because she drank three cups of green tea a day for several months.
Notably, it wasn’t the store-bought kind that she sipped on. In order to lose weight quickly, she went online and ordered green tea from China; unfortunately, she didn’t know that it contained Camellia sinensis, the very agent that caused her liver to go haywire. She managed to recover thanks to her time in the hospital, and presumably dumped out the tea at the earliest chance.
