Floyd and Violet Hartwig
Floyd and Violet Hartwig were married for 67 years. They got married in 1947 and died hours apart, still holding hands.

LIfe Long Love
Violet Hartwig had been suffering from dementia for years and Floyd had recently been diagnosed with kidney failure. They were both in hospice care in beds pushed next to each other when Floyd died at age 90. Violet died shortly after at age 89.

Floyd and Violet Hartwig knew each other since elementary school. However they did not become romantically involved until WWII when Floyd was in the Navy.

A Life Time of Memories
The couple is survived by three children, Donna, Carol and Kenneth. The children were glad that their parents died with each other and surrounded by family. "We felt blessed because we knew that’s what they wanted” said daughter Donna.

Pen Pals
Violet and Floyd wrote over 100 love letters to each other during WWII when Floyd was in the army. Here is an excerpt from a letter from Floyd from 1947:
"Hi honey, just a few lines from this lonely blue sailor of yours. Miss you darling and so in love with you. … Honey, I’ll sure be glad when I get out of this. It sure isn’t for me, though at one time I thought the Navy was pretty swell. That was before I fell in love with the sweetest girl in the world."
