Every Wednesday, Guinness World Records
reveals one of the coolest, or most unique records they have discovered
recently by their Records Management Team in the Spotlight Series. For
this week, the company has confirmed Corduroy is the oldest living cat,
as he just recently turned 26 years old. A domestic cat generally has a
life span of around 15 years, so that’s rather impressive.
Corduroy
held the record once before, but lost when the owners of Tiffany Two
submitted a claim for it. Unfortunately, Tiffany Two has passed away at
the incredible age of 27 years, 2 months, and 20 days. Corduroy now
holds the record once more, and rightly so. Born on August 1, 1989,
Corduroy and owner Ashley Reed Okura have been together since the feline
was nothing more than a tiny kitten. Upon learning of the achievement,
Ashley decided to try for it once more by submitted her partner to
Guinness.
Unfortunately, Corduroy isn’t the oldest cat to have
ever lived. Creme Puff was born in 1967 and lived until 2005 – making
him an almost impossible 38 years and 3 days old. That’s over double the
life span of an average domesticated feline.
