At its best, Instagram can be an endless feed of body positivity
— and, at its worst, it can be a feeding frenzy for trolls. Chance the
Rapper got swept up in the later after a screenshot went viral that
depicted the rapper "liking" a negative comment on what was otherwise a
positive post.
[post_ads]The post in question, which appeared on the feed of WorldStarHipHop,
was a photo of three half-naked women covering their chests with the
caption "SPONSORED: When @fashionnovacurve has the HOTTEST🔥Plus
Styles🔥 Sizes 1X 2X 3X 😍
Shop and Follow @fashionnovacurve. Shop FashionNova.com." It elicited a
range of reactions from commentators, from, "These women are gorgeous❤️"
to offensive ones such as, "Just puked." It was the latter comment,
though, that some caught Chance the Rapper faving.
After the screenshot circulated to blogger Gabi Fresh, she posted it on her own Twitter timeline with this caption: "Ugh, Chance. Why??!!?? I loved you 😭😭😭." It didn't take long for her tweet to go viral, amassing over 1,100 retweets and over 2,300 likes before — after an onslaught of negative replies — Gabi made her account private.
Before she did
though, Chance the Rapper spotted it himself and quickly issued an
apology on Twitter. "This isn't fake," he wrote, linking to Gabi's
tweet. "I accidentally liked an offensive comment on IG. I apologize to
anybody hurt by it and it doesn't reflect my character 🤕"

For the record: Body-shaming is never okay. We all have different bodies, and every body is worthy of equal respect and love. Also for the record: accidents do happen. It is entirely possible that Chance happened to stumble across a comment on a post and hit the heart button — lots of people have done it. That said, it is also possible that his fave was intentional. Either way, what we do know is that he immediately took responsibility for his actions and apologized to his offended fans, which is worth commending.
Judging
by the flood of responses, that seems to be good enough for many of his
fans, including Gabi herself. "I was disappointed when I saw the
screencap being shared because I love him so much!," Gabi tells Allure
in a text. "I'm happy he addressed it and confirmed it was done in
error; I've hit the like button by mistake before, too. He's definitely
still a fave."
