Every now and then, there are times when people have to take the law
into their own hands. It’s a romantic ideal, and in some instances it’s
actually the right thing to do. Unfortunately, not everyone is willing
to tolerate rule-breaking — which would explain why a teenager being
hailed as a hero has faced the threat of suspension.
Cody Pines is
a junior at Huntington Pines High School, but a chance encounter made
him into something more. He spotted a bully attacking a fellow student —
a visually-impaired one, at that — and decided to spring into action.
Pines left the bully beaten and bloody, and saved the victim; shortly
after, the bully was arrested, while Pines completely dodged arrest.
Unfortunately, the school didn’t look fondly upon the event. Talk of
Pines’ suspension has been in the air, but the school’s officials assert
that Pines could come freely at any point.
Regardless, backlash
soon followed. Students and eyewitnesses alike believed that Pines did
the right thing, as did others in the community. It’s unclear if the
school backed down on their zero-tolerance policy because of the
publicity — and the petition set up
to keep Pines on the football team following rumors of his discharge —
or if they never had the intent to punish him. Either way, Pines heart
was in the right place; now he has a legion of fans to back him up in
any fight.
