Simple in concept, HitchBOT relied entirely on mankind’s kindness in
order to journey across the world. As many hitchhikers do, this
hitchhiking robot stood on the side of the road with his thumb in the
air and waited for a kind stranger to come and pick it up and drop him
off at his next location.
With this simple yet curious concept, the adorable hitchhiking robot
HitchBOT managed to travel across parts of Europe as well as across
Canada without being damaged in any way. However, one unknown vicious
character with clear anger issues has ended the robot’s journey through the US abruptly.
Smashed to pieces and damaged beyond repair by someone in Philadelphia,
the hitchhiking robot spawned a worldwide internet investigation in
hopes to find out what has happened to him. While some jokingly
speculate that the man who killed the robot was scared of the robot
uprising others actually managed to find video footage of the attack.
However some individuals have managed to find surveillance cam video of the attack, but the investigation is still underway.
Short
lived, his life was full of adventures as we can see by the photos
captured by his camera, which he took every 20 minutes. Engaging in
limited conversation, HitchBOT enjoyed a Red Sox game and has even taken
a trip out to sea.
His family, in the face of Frauke Zeller,
HitchBOT’s co-creator, stated that they are extremely sad their robot’s
journey has came to an end. “I hope that people won’t be disappointed, too sad.” However, we can’t at least hope that the internet will bring justice to the robot’s killer.
