The Difference Between 4K, Ultra HD & HDR?

First it was flat-screen plasmas, then it was LCDs, then LEDs with 3D, and now the hot words in the television world are 4K, Ultra HD and HDR.

When new TV technology is introduced, there’s a waiting period for prices to drop in order to get your hands on one, but 2016 and 2017 will be the year of the 4K TV.

Prices are set to drop further and further, especially with brands like Vizio hitting the market with amazing prices for 60+” TVs.

For those that need a quick brush up on what 4K and UHD mean, here’s a breakdown.
4K TVs more double the output resolution you are commonly use to seeing (1920 x 1080) by broadcasting images to you on a 4096 x 2160 display. This increases image detail and overall picture, thus making HD even more HD.

The one issue right now is that there is no easily available content for this new resolution, but companies are working on this and when 2017 comes around, there will be a ton of content.

So what is the difference between 4K, Ultra HD (UHD) and HDR?
Well, in a nutshell, 4K is the professional standard, UHD is the consumer standard. The resolution is the exact same, it’s just a naming convention. HDR on the other hand is a bit different.

HDR is the ability to display a wider range of colors, brighter whites, darker blacks. It’s a new format that will allow you to watch content that is truly lifelike.
The end of 2016 and start of 2017 will be the 4K season. Look for prices to keep dropping and new content to hit the shelves.
